Richard G. Bordenet, 68, of Newfield passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ethel Huften; and brothers, Ronnie and Doug Bordenet. He is survived by his loving bride of 49 years, Joan Hays Bordenet; children, Tina (Jim) Henry of Newfield, Bonnie (Jeff) Hockenberry of Newfield, and Tracy (Todd) Hammond of Candor; brothers, Carl (Cindy) Bordenet of Sayre, and Frank Bordenet of Candor; sister, Marcy (Jeff) Bowen of Vestal; grandchildren, TJ Poyer, Torey (Lindsey Harrell) Poyer, Andreana, and Desiray Hockenberry, and Cale and Sierra Henry; along with numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Dick retired from Cornell University as a welder/maintenance mechanic after 32 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #221 in Ithaca. Dick enjoyed gambling, golf, traveling and working outside. He was a former race car driver and an avid NASCAR fan. Dick enjoyed his home in Florida where he also got to spend time with his brother and sister-in-laws. After his retirement he enjoyed baking for his grandchildren and planning the family get togethers. Dick was also a founder of the Bears Den Sportsmans Club. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor with Rev. Doug Brock officiating. Family invites friends to call from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Memorial donations may be made in Dick’s name to Newfield Fire Department, 77 Main Street, Newfield, NY 14867.
