Paul J. Cavataio, 98, formerly of Candor, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014. Mr. Cavataio was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Cleo Cavataio; four brothers, James, Samuel, Thomas, and John Cavataio; sister, Pauline Oliver. He is survived by his children, J. Paul and Carol Cavataio, S. Christine Cavataio and her husband, Jack Glassman; granddaughter, Melissa Cavataio and Tyler Boland; great-grandson, Giovanni Cavataio; sister, Neva Jantz; several nieces and nephews. Paul was born May 28, 1916 in Auburn, NY to Giovanni and Scholastica Cavataio. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and earned five Bronze Stars, the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart. Paul was a wonderful family man and a very respected businessman. He owned and operated with his brother, Jim, The Farm Equipment Store in Candor for 35 years. Paul was very community minded and supported many local organizations. He served as a member of the Board of Directors at Tioga State Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 300 Main St., Owego with the Rev. Thomas Valenti, officiating. Burial will be in the Woodbridge Cemetery, Catatonk, NY. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego. Memorial contribtions may be made in Paul J. Cavataio’s memory to the Tioga County Open Door Mission, 425 North Avenue, Owego, NY 13827 or the Tioga County Senior Citizens Foundation, P.O.
