Obituary of Kerry M. Howe

Please share a memory of Kerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kerry M. Howe, (1959-2016) Kerry Morgan Howe passed away in his sleep November 25, 2016, after a long struggle with several health issues. He spent Thanksgiving evening sharing a pleasant dinner with friends. Kerry was pre-deceased by his grandparents, his parents, Alfred George Howe and Ruth Fulton Howe, and his sister Martha Howe Maki. He is survived by his son, Morgan Alfred Howe, his brothers, Alfred H.(Fred) Howe (Madelyn Reilly) and Kirtley S. Howe (Melody), and his sister Jennifer Howe Narkiewicz (Paul). He grew up in Candor in "the big white house on Main Street" and attended Candor High School. He ran track and was on the wrestling team. After graduation, he attended Pinellas Vocational Technical Institute in Florida, where he placed second in a national Vo-Tech competition and graduated at the top of his class. He was also one of the first on the scene to help the victims, mostly children, when a tornado leveled an elementary school next to the college. Returning to New York State, he met and married Melodie B. Krause of Candor. Together, they had one son, Morgan. In 1981, he and Melodie joined his parents and his brother, Fred and Fred's wife Madelyn to start R Manufacturing Company, a family-owned machine shop business. In 1993, Kerry, Melodie, and Morgan decided to follow the sun and moved to Tennessee. After parting ways with Melodie, Kerry eventually returned to Owego, where he has lived for over a decade. He was a familiar figure around town, often seen riding his bicycle or on foot, greeting and talking with many friends and acquaintances. He was a writer and contributed some articles to the Owego Pennysaver. Always bright, clever, and quick with a joke or wry comment, he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 2 PM at the Estey, Monroe and Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego.
