Lawrence Willard Felton, 99, of Candor died Sunday, November 27, 2016. Mr. Felton was born May 12, 1917 in Lathrop Township, Susquehanna County, PA, the second child of Voy and Emily Rosetta (Watkins) Felton. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Edna Phillips Martin Felton, sister and brother-in-law, Lois and John Williams, brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Emma Felton. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Lee and Dr. Visut Prasarn; two grandsons and their spouses, Paul (Shannon) Prasarn, Esq., Mark (Krystyn) Prasarn, MD; his two great-grandchildren, Roman and Alexis Prasarn; sister, Juanita Spencer, niece, Sally (Jerome) Butcher; nephews, Bill (Arlene) Williams, Randy and Jeff Felton; many great nieces and nephews. Larry graduated from Nicholson, PA High School in 1935 and two weeks later went to work at Bailey’s making ironing boards. Later that year on October 10, 1935, he started work for International Business Machines as a tool maker and tool designer. Larry was a veteran of WWII. He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in January 1944 and graduated as an Aviation Cadet in Lubbock, Texas just after the War. In 1963, he and Edna moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he worked for IBM from 1963-1975 and became a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. After retiring to Cape Coral in September of 1976, he joined the Cape Coral Yacht Club and Wood Carver. He took many oil painting courses and became Bob Ross Certified to teach painting flowers. He lived in Cape Coral for 26 years. Around 1988 a group of artists, including, Lawrence W. Felton, carved in marble a life size statue of the Florida State Cougar which now resides in the Cape Coral City Hall. Larry carved the head of the cougar. He was a member of the National Wood Carvers Association. Larry’s hunting buddy and beloved dog as a young boy was “Lindy” named after Charles Lindbergh, the famous aviator. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He moved to Candor, NY in 1999 to be with his family where he was active until just a few years ago. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 11:00 am. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 PARK STREET, OWEGO with the Rev. Anthony Steel, officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Condolences may be made to Larry’s family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
