Frank Malec, 96, of Owego passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Frank was predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Irene Malec. He is survived by his four children, Frank J. Malec, Judi Malec-DiGioia and Jim Sullivan, Mary Anne Malec, Nancy Malec; three granddaughters, Ashley (Christian) Otero, Danielle (Rui) Vasconcelos, Paige Malec; brother, Joseph Malec; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank Malec served 39 months as a WWII Army Corporal in the Anti-aircraft battalion, 3rd Infantry Division in Unit 441. He participated in three invasions: Sicily, Italy; Ansio, France and Southern France. His last place of service was in Warsaw, Poland, where he was responsible for the welfare of over 100 soldiers. After 25 years as a maintenance supervisor, he retired from Hoffman LaRoche. He traveled the world with wife, Irene, and their best friends Emil and Dorothy Galka. They backpacked throughout Europe and Asia, spent thirty days in China, visited Russia and their relatives in Poland and visited almost every state in the US including Hawaii and Alaska, where they river rafted while in their 80’s. Frank prayed nightly for his whole family, was an avid Yankees and Jets fan and a #1 Dad! Funeral services will be held privately.
