Obituary of Evelyn M. Stella

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evelyn M. Stella left our world to join her beloved husband Louie on January7, 2021. She was born on September 14, 1925. Evelyn, the Queen, was the beloved mother of four children, Greg and his wife Patti, Mike and his wife Julie, Colleen and her husband, Alan, and Lu and her wife Elizabeth. Evelyn was Grandma Stella or Gram to six grandchildren (Patrick, Tim, Erica, Rachel, Hannah, and Emma) and was GG to her three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Arya, and Oliver. We all knew that a well-loved person has many names and Evelyn indeed had many. Owego, NY, was Evelyn's home town, and was the place she met Louie. He offered her violets and her heart was his forever. They honeymooned at Niagara Falls, but their get-away was delayed when their friends pranked them by putting limburger cheese on their car's engine head. The odor was strong enough they needed professional help before they could leave town. Evelyn and Louie made their home in the Owego flats, surrounded by family and friends. They shared a backyard and barbecue with the Eschler family, and the children always had playmates, and Evelyn had a dear friend in Mary Rose who would pull the laundry off the clothesline if an unexpected shower threatened. Evelyn loved to have fun was often the life of the party. She never turned down the opportunity to play a game of cards, and looked forward to the poker games at family reunions. She was an avid knitter, making afghans for family members and innumerable sweaters, scarves, and mittens. The Queen also enjoyed her milk chocolate, the creamier the better. Evelyn had her mischievous side; she brought squirt guns to her granddaughter's High School graduation party and surreptitiously sprayed an elderly gentleman who asked, "is it raining?" although the sun was shining brightly. We are not sure Evelyn ever confessed to her involvement. In later years Evelyn lived with her daughters and their families, spending half of her time in North Carolina and the other half in Cazenovia, NY. Every year her family rented a house in Emerald Isle, NC, and spent memorable weeks right on the ocean. There were hours by the shore, innumerable card games, ice cream runs, and at least one trip to the Dollar Tree. Evelyn was a shopper who always wanted to see what was new and fun. She loved to dress up with matching jewelry and also delighted in purchasing gifts for her beloved family members. Evelyn's family will receive friends on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 11am until 1pm at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY. Please Note: All State Required social distancing guidelines are to be followed. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A burial of cremains will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Owego, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rural Ministries of Owego, NY. Her family invites you to raise a glass to Evelyn's memory, enjoy a bite of chocolate, and play a game or two of cards. Remember her as you share a joke or a prank, knit a dishcloth, or watch a Yankees' baseball game. Condolences may be made to Evelyn's family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
