Obituary of Walter H. Klinger

Walter H. Klinger, of Candor, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021. He was born on December 12, 1932 in New Milford, New Jersey to Louise Roller and Walter Henry Klinger. Walter moved to Candor at a young age, and graduated from Candor Central School in 1951 where he was captain of the baseball team. He proudly served in the Naval Reserves and then as a mineman with the U.S. Navy stationed in Nevada and Okinawa, and was honorably discharged. He married Elsie Doty in 1956, and worked for NYS Electric & Gas in Ithaca for 33 years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and gardening, and he could fix absolutely anything. He was a 65 year Mason with the Candor Lodge. He was a talented musician, singing in barbershop quartets and played the piano by ear. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elsie Doty Klinger; daughter, Susan (Deane) Cook, of Ithaca; son, Walter (Kim) Klinger III, of Bridgton, Maine; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Klinger. He enjoyed his grandchildren, Daniel Klinger (Nicci DePersis), Michael Cook (Laura Miller), Chelsea (Dan) Courneya, Shannon (Zachary) Carter, Jennifer Cook (John Nord), and Kristina and Jennifer O'Connor. He had two great grandchildren, Cooper Klinger and Alannah Carter. He was predeceased by his son, Russell Klinger. Burial will be at the Candor Maple Grove Cemetery in the Spring.
