Obituary of Jose Thomas Cruz

Jose "Joe" Cruz, 65, of Spencer, NY passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021. Joe was born in Fairfax, VA to the late Thomas (Quenga) Cruz and Lydia (Pöll) Cruz Dutton. Joe was predeceased in death by his brother Frank Quenga Cruz, sister Linda Cruz Swansbrough and mother in law Roberta Pangelian. He is survived by his wife of over 36 years, Arlene Cruz; three daughters and son-in-laws, Amanda and Eric Wolfe, Monej Cruz and her fiancé, Maurice Townsell, Desiree and Todd Benjamin; a son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Kathryn Cruz; father in law, Frank V. Soria; fourteen grandchildren, Hunter, Gabriel, Liliana, Colton, Valorie, Charlize, Hailey, Alison, William, Lindsey, Rylan, Jackson, Isaiah, and Alisabeth; siblings, Thomas (Angelika) Zebitz, Tom (Katie) Cruz, John (Denise) Cruz, Linda (Rick) Cruz Lopez, twin sister Marcella Cruz Frink, Norman (Rebecca) Cruz, Charmie (Robert) Cruz Vince, Shirley Leary, Richard (Melody) Dutton, and Dominick (Kris) Dutton; brother-in-law, Donny Swansbrough; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He had a love for hunting, fishing, gardening, and his beloved cars and planes. Joe had been working on building his own plane for an extended period of time. He was a military veteran and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 11:00am at St. James Catholic Church, Waverly, NY. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery with full military honors being accorded. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 5 – 7pm at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY.
