Obituary of Isabel M. Ford

Please share a memory of Isabel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Isabel (Bell) M. Ford, 91, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) H. Ford and daughter, Cynthia (Cindi) E. Ford. She is survived by her daughter, Allyson K. Ford; son-in-law, John M. Abrams; grandsons, Kevin F. and Spencer H. Abrams; sisters, Rosemary (Paul) Carpenter and Henrietta O'Donnell. Bell was born in Somerville, Massachusetts and moved to Owego, NY when she was fourteen years old. Although she lived in upstate NY for most of her life she never lost her "Boston" accent. Before retirement, Bell was the Executive Director for the Tioga County chapter of the American Red Cross for 25 years. Her caring, compassionate and kind personality made her the perfect person to help so many people when they were experiencing some of the most difficult days of their lives. She helped many active duty service members to obtain leave and provide travel assistance when there was a family emergency at home. Many families were helped by Bell when they needed shelter, food, and clothing after a tragic event such as a house fire or other disaster that rendered them homeless. During the major flood of 1972, she was instrumental in setting up a shelter at the Elks Club in Owego where she worked along with other staff until people had homes to return to. Over the years she also coordinated and staffed countless blood drives throughout the community. Bell had many close friends over the years and was especially close to her Niece and Nephew, Glenda and Rick Ford who always made her welcome in their home for family gatherings and took her on outings over the past several years. A celebration of her life will be held at Esty, Monroe and Fahey funeral home at 15 Park St. in Owego on July 11, 2022 at 3:00pm.
