Lena E. Dougherty, 87, of Candor, New York, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 with her family by her side. Lena was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Clyde "Gene" Dougherty; four brothers, Robert (Helen) Chrysler, Glen Chrysler, Eugene Chrysler, David (Sharon) Chrysler; three sisters, Sybil (Bruce) Abbey, Joan (George) Beebe, Bonnie Grist. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Glenn and Annette Dougherty, Maureen Dougherty and Craig Kranz, Annette and Dan Estelle, Guy and Patricia Dougherty, Rebecca and Jeff Jantz, Tracy and Karen Dougherty, Sandra Dougherty; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; sister-in-law Wanda (Eugene) Chrysler; and special friends of 30 years, Steve and Trish Barrows. Lena, alongside her husband, owned and operated a poultry farm for many years. She raised her family in Straits Corners Church, later supported North Spencer Church after leaving the farm, and spent her final years as a devoted member of Grace Bible Church. Her true passion was her family, and she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher in her 70s when she was hired as a preschool teacher at North Spencer Christian Academy. She was known for her baking, beautiful crochet blankets, quilts, embroidery, and sense of humor. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren during the holidays, and her deepest desire was for her family to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The family would like to thank mom's friend and caretaker, Shawn Wagstaff, as well as the staff at Riverview Manor in Owego, NY for their loving care over the past three weeks. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Candor, NY. A private burial will be held in the Spring at the Riverside Cemetery, Lounsberry, NY. The family will receive friends Friday, February 21, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
