Donald R. Schmitt, 93, of Owego, New York, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Mr. Schmitt was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Jean Schmitt; his parents, John H. and Margaret (Sandwick) Schmitt; two brothers, Jack and Jim Schmitt. Don is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Donald, II (Cheryl), Timothy (Janelle), Barry (Debbie); five grandchildren, Phillip (Brett Ashley) Tara (Matt), Alexandra (Ben), Jonathan, Christopher; five great-grandchildren, Emerson, Effie, Jenna, McKinley, Charlotte; several nieces and nephews. Don was born in Endicott, New York, but lived in Owego for most of his life. He was a graduate of Owego Free Academy, class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War (1950-1954). He graduated, June 9, 1956, from Broome Community College at 4:00 p.m. and the celebration continued with him marrying the love of his life, Jean Moran at 7:00 p.m. He was a member of the Owego First Church of the Nazarene for 69 years and he served in many positions including treasurer (25 yrs) and financial secretary (58 yrs). He was a faithful servant of the Lord and enjoyed attending the Nazarene Family Camp services in Brooktondale, New York. His family and God were the loves of his life and his sense of humor was enjoyed by many. We want to give a special thanks to his caregivers that have been helping him since the time of Jean's passing, Bryan, Andrew, Mary Kay, Susan, Lerae, Justine, Annette and Nick. A celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3732 Waverly Road, Owego, NY. The family will receive friends Friday, March 21st from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald R.
