Jerrold Lee "Jerry" Cargill Sr. (91), of Endicott, New York passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born in Endicott, New York to the late Robert and Elma (Ellis) Cargill; two brothers Roger Cargill, Derwood "Gene" Cargill. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Carole Cargill; four children and their spouses, Jerrold Jr. and Kim Cargill, Cindy Cargill (Chris Shaner), Theresa and Rick Rogers, and Michael and Juliette Morton. He has 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jerry Sr. was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
After completing U-E High School in 1951, he held several part-time jobs. He started working at Union Forging in 1952. In April 1952, he enlisted in the National Guard at the Armory in Binghamton. In 1953, he was drafted and later released on January 23rd, of 1955. His most memorable political event was in June of 1954 in Abilene, Kansas. While serving in the U.S. Army, he marched in the parade for President Dwight Eisenhower's home/ museum . He was able to capture a photo of the president in his Cadillac convertible. Upon his return from the Army, he landed a job at IBM in Endicott, NY. He worked for IBM until he retired after 33 ½ years, at the age of 56 ½.
Jerry Sr. started bowling in the spring of 1957 and retired at the end of the 2008-2009 season. He was very active in bowling and had many accomplishments. He attended 31 National Tournaments and multiple state and local tournaments. He was a bowling instructor at Ideal Lanes and later became the director of the junior bowling program. He was secretary of multiple leagues and the past secretary of the EBA, and NYS Bowling Association. He was a member of the Endicott and NYS Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Some of his accomplishments were a 300 game and as a golfer 2 hole in one's.
He met his wife Carole in 1974 at Ideal Bowling Center. They were then married on August 12th in 1977. Throughout their marriage they had the opportunity to travel to many different cities, states, and countries. In his retired life, Jerry Sr. enjoyed sharing old photographs of his younger years and family history through Facebook. This was his way of keeping his family updated on events of the past. His family and friends will greatly miss him.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 31, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street Owego, NY. Funeral services will be held privately.
