Obituary of Sandi Jo Nickels
Please share a memory of Sandi to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep compassion and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Sandi (Sam) Jo Nickels, who left us on May 15, 2025, at the age of 56. Sandi was known not only as a kind and generous soul, but also as someone who never met a stray cat she didn't love—and usually brought home.
Born on March 21, 1969, in Waverly, New York. Sandi's life was a beautiful testament to resilience, grace, and enduring kindness. Though she faced more than her share of challenges, she met them all with unwavering strength and emerged with a heart still full of love and laughter. Her joy was contagious, and her compassion left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. In recent years, Sandi committed herself to growth and healing, inspiring everyone around her with her courage and determination.
Sandi leaves behind a legacy of warmth and love. She is deeply missed by her daughters, Kasandra (Phillip Stilloe) Renda and Brittanie Renda; her grandchildren; and her father, Thomas Nickels; her paternal grandmother, Marion "Nancy" Nickels. She is also survived by her sister, Tomi-Lynn (David) Rando; and her brothers, Michael (Peggie) Nickels, Joshua (Elizabeth) Nickels, and Luke (Shelley) Nickels. Though preceded in death by her beloved mother and best friend, Judith Morgan, we find peace in imagining their joyful reunion—together again, with a bond unbroken by time.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sandi's cherished companion, Michael Ward. Their bond was one of true partnership—rooted in love, loyalty, and mutual support. Beyond indulging Sandi's sweet tooth for chocolate, Michael stood beside her as a devoted friend and partner. As the quote goes, "There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved."
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at 12:00 Noon at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY, with her brother, Rev. Joshua Nickels, officiating. Burial will follow at Gibson Corners Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
