Jane E. Cornett Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Cornett, 97, of Owego, New York, has gone golfing and "Teed" off to Heaven to join her husband, Lloyd "Jack" Cornett, in a round of golf. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Lloyd "Jack" Cornett; parents, Lynn and Edith Russell; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Karl) Betts, Barbara (Frank) Hutchins; twin sister, Jean (James) Ford. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary (Debra) Cornett, Gregory (Leslie) Cornett, Mark (Carole) Cornett; the light of her life, her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and her many nieces, nephews and cousins; especially her niece and caregiver, Suzanne Betts. Jane graduated from Vestal Central School, class of 1946, and retired from a successful beautician career in 1982. Jane is a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She joined the Order of Eastern Star in 1950 and remained an honorary member of Onyx Chapter #196, where she was past District Deputy Grand Matron of the C-S-T District in 2007. She choreographed and led many drill teams for her chapter, loved to write poems and create skits for family, golf friends, and the Eastern Star. She is best known for her "golf lessons". Jane also belonged to the Mutuals Social Group. She was an avid golfer and proud owner of a hole-in-one at age 75 and an eagle score at age 81. She served her golf league for over 25 years as president and secretary. Jane always had a smile on her face, and her pretty hair all in place. Her strength in life is exemplified by the following poem, "Life is Like a Round of Golf: Many a turn or twist, but the game is much too sweet and short to curse the shots you've missed. Sometimes you'll hit it straight and far, sometimes the putts roll true, but each round has its errant shots and trouble to play through. So always swing with courage no matter what the lie, and never let the hazards destroy the joy inside, and keep a song within your heart. Give thanks that you can play, for the round is much too short and sweet to let it slip away". The family will receive friends, Friday, July 18, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Burial will follow in the Tioga Cemetery, Owego, New York.
