Hazel (Hill) Daniel Obituary

Hazel E (Hill) Daniel passed away July 26, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband, William H Daniel Jr.; her parents, Don and Margaret Hill; her brother R. Keith Hill, all of Apalachin, NY. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Jeff) Warmke, three grandsons, Alex, Nick, and Kevin Warmke; two brothers, Kenneth (Barb) Hill of Apalachin, D. Garth (Kathie) Hill, of Owego; her sister, Nina (Dean) Smith, of Owego, several nieces and nephews and their families. She graduated from Owego Free Academy and Imperial School of Beauty Culture. She had her own beauty shop and then worked a number of jobs with regular hours and pay, till she was forced into early retirement due to her battle with MS. She was a life member of the VFW in Owego, where she held a position of Trustee. She will be cremated with ashes to be buried with her husband and some into her frog urn (she was a frog freak) to be placed on her daughter's front porch. Donations in Hazel's name can be made to the VFW Post Glenn A Warner Post #1371, Owego, NY 13827 or to Alex's program: Special Recreation Services, Inc (1076 Washington Blvd, Bangor, Pa 18013). The family will receive friends Monday, August 4, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. with funeral services immediately following at 12:00 Noon at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY.

The above obituary was written by Hazel herself, but doesn't reflect the joyful, hilarious, sparkling and fiery force that was Hazel. Hazel lived the vast majority of her life surrounded by family on the family farm. Hazel worked her "regular jobs" but also attended every event her daughter participated in and was a senior girl scout leader when no one else volunteered (although she chose to camp in an RV rather than a tent). She loved travelling with Bill to visit Lynn in college or in NJ, extended family in Cape May, NJ, the NY State Fair, and any military commissary along the way. Hazel always had candy and freezer pops for nieces and nephews and nothing in Hazel's house was off-limits to play with. She loved crafts, hand-making cards, and cake decorating and was known for collecting kitchen gadgets, cookbooks, mugs and yes, frogs. Hazel accumulated friends everywhere she went, including random grocery store aisles, because she could and would talk to anyone. She faced MS, breast cancer, essential tremor, and a surgically repaired broken leg with amazing resolve, grace and a whole lot of humor, most recently joking on her way to get an ultrasound that 'she hoped she wasn't pregnant'. She will leave an enormous hole in our family, but we trust she is free from her struggles and enjoying her reunion with Bill.
