James Edmond Morton, III passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 at the age of 79. Born on October 18, 1945 to the late J. Edmond and Elizabeth Pauline (nee McCue) Morton, he is survived by his sister, Mary (Ken) Bean, son, Ed (Kari) Morton, nephew, Ken (Lisa) Bean, niece, Debora (Joe) Hartnett, grandchildren, Grace, James, William, and Elizabeth Morton.

James was a 1965 graduate of Massanutten Military Academy where he attained the R.O.T.C. rank of First Lieutenant Company C.

James pursued many careers, including insurance and car sales, but found his true calling as a farrier and avid horseman. He was an expert horse trainer and rider who enjoyed nothing more than spending time in the saddle or at the track.

Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Church,300 Main Street, Owego. Burial services will be held privately at the family's convenience.
