James P. "Jim" DeVita, Jr., 76, of Owego, New York, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Helen (Augusta) DeVita; sister, Lois Short. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy DeVita; two sons, Fred (Sarah) DeVita, James DeVita; daughter, Kimberly DeVita; four grandchildren, Bianca (her mother, Jennifer), Nohl, Quentin, Rocco; his three dogs, Justice, Rue, Mae; his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Marilyn DeVita; Godmother, Jennie DeVita; several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jim graduated from Union Endicott School District and SUNY Canton. He retired as Chief of Police for the Village of Owego. After retirement, Jim took great pride in working on the family farm, DeVita Farms. He also loved helping local farmers and hauling cattle to Empire Livestock. In honoring Jim's wishes there will be no public services.
