Alan M. Shuma, 42, of Owego, New York, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Alan is survived by his mother and stepfather, Karen and Philip Balan; father, Mark Shuma; sister, Lindsey Shuma and her fiance Garrett Casey; Brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Maureen Shuma; nephew, Leon Casey; nieces, Olivia and Charlotte Shuma; several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members and friends. Alan was predeceased by his special companion, Axel.

Alan was an adventure loving thrill seeker who loved life and was always looking for the next big thing. He loved the outdoors, including camping, fishing, boating and surfing. He was very creative and loved creating and building, whether it was turning a cardboard box into an artistic statement or building personalized walking sticks. Alan had a heart of gold, dropping anything he was doing to help a friend or neighbor. His sense of humor and his smile will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe and Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY. The family will receive friends Friday, January 9th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributons may be made to the Campville Volunteer Fire Department, 6153 State Route 17C, Endicott, New York 13760.
