"She was everything good in this world"
Kind, Caring, warm, generous, loveable. She would give you the last of her change and would take her own shirt off back...but then dementia would make her think you stole it.
Nana took in numerous foster children throughout her life and volunteered at the open door mission, cleaned up local parks and brought her grandchildren along to help.
Nana loved frogs, and arts and crafts. She could find a picture in the grease stain of a pizza box and no one ever questioned the strange artwork pinned to her walls, we appreciated that she was unique and peculiar. Nana loved the colors, Green and Black, and screwdrivers and Rolling Rock. Nana was loud and outgoing...always the life of any party and at time out lasted most of us.
Nana never judged, not anyone. Ever. Nana would sit on her porch on North Ave and by the time the workday/school day was over, her tiny porch would be filled of friends and neighbors. Some that she met right then and there just because they were simply walking by.
Nana also would never let herself be forgotten. She told outrageous wild stories and still has me questioning which ones are true. A conversation with Nana was always intriguing, full of wit, dirty language, and always had us laughing. Those stories, and the magic in her blue eyes when she got to tell them, would keep you engaged in conversation forever.
I will miss my Nana. Her hugs, her cold lips, her bare hands that she always hid in those braces. I will miss the sound of her crutches clicking. I will miss her calls and voicemails. But she gave me enough love to last the rest of my lifetime. Who knew a heart full of live could feel so empty. I love you Nan. Thank you for giving me everything you did.
A celebration of Nana's life will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Glen A Warner VFW Post #1371, 207 Main Street, Owego, NY.
