Willetta, thank you.
When I found out I was pregnant with Grayson, I was scared. Like many first time mothers, I had so many questions, worries, and fears about what was ahead. But from that very moment, Willetta stepped into my life in a way I will never forget along side of my parents and family.
She didn’t just accept the role of grandma, now I can say grandma without her smacking me haha, but she showed up. She walked beside me throughout my entire pregnancy journey. She celebrated every milestone, checked in on me, brought thoughtful gifts, and made sure I never felt alone. She took Grayson overnight as a newborn when I needed sleep from school and night tasks with our new babe. When I was nervous about becoming a mother, she gave me confidence. When I needed support, she was there.
Willetta’s love extended far beyond me. She loved my entire family as if we were her own. She’s even stated my children of a different father would be her own grand babies. She remembered my nephews with gifts and attention, attended family events, and became a cherished presence in all of our lives. One of my favorite memories is how excited she was when Grayson was born. Clothes, bets in being a girl, shoes, bottles, etc. Willetta proudly carried pictures and stories everywhere she went. I still smile thinking about her passing Grayson around the DMV, introducing him to everyone with the excitement and pride of a grandmother showing off her very first grandbaby. I just needed my license picture done lol! Her joy was contagious.
In the hospital, during the first overwhelming day of motherhood, Willetta was there too. She patiently showed me how to feed a newborn and change a diaper with a boy (that she was certain would be a girl lol). Those moments may have seemed small, but they meant the world to me. They were acts of love, guidance, and care that I have carried with me ever since. next to my side and my mother.
Willetta and Terri became family. Not because they had to, but because that’s who willetta was.
Willetta, thank you for being there. Thank you for loving my children, my family, and me. Thank you for your guidance, your laughter, your generosity, and your unwavering support.
You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Grayson and I will love you always.
