Obituary of Gary McDermid
MCDERMID, Gary Richard, age 60, of Ludlow Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 24, 2018. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1976 and initially attended Ohio State University before graduating with a BS degree in Computer Science from Wright State University. He remained an avid Ohio State football fan. During Gary’s high school years, he was a member of the Centerville High School wrestling team. Gary was a highly regarded and excellent high school wrestler winning several major tournaments. Coach Ken Simmons was an important coach and mentor for Gary and they stayed in touch even after graduation. Gary later volunteered his time and coached for Centerville at the freshman, middle school and kids level for fifteen years. Centerville Wrestling Alumni Association Director Matt Turton said: “Gary made a life changing impact on Centerville Wrestlers as a Coach and as a friend.” Gary’s first job was with a small Computer Company developing software for banking and later worked at NCR in the development and troubleshooting of software for ATMs. NCR’s ATM technology originated in Dundee, Scotland and Gary traveled to Scotland to assist with bringing that technology and best practice to the NCR Headquarters in Dayton. He retired from NCR in 2010. Gary was devoted to his parents, especially as they entered their elderly years. Gary’s interests included gardening, canning, cooking, photography, stock market trading and enjoying the rural life. His German Shepard dogs were his constant companions.
Preceded in death by his parents William L. and Isabelle (Peachy) McDermid and his brother William L. McDermid II. Gary is survived by two sisters; Jeanne M. (Woods R.) Brown, Mary M.
