Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary A. Dence passed from this world on 12/21/2018. Born July 3, 1928 to Robert and Velma (Meddaugh) Andrews, Mary lived the majority of her life in Candor, N.Y. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Olin “Cub” Dence; granddaughter, Janelle Butterfield, three brothers, infant Roger Andrews, Karl Andrews, Arthur Andrews; son-in-law, Stephen Martin; nephew, Mark Andrews. Survivors include Mary’s sister, Georgia Smith Vergason; son, Gary (Kathryn) Dence, three daughters, Wendy Martin, Susan (Steven) Tubbs, Connie Dence; five grandchildren, Terri (Tom) Lasky, Kami (Charlie) Gilbert, Kirk (Angela) Martin, Teresa (Michael) Ketchum, Joleen (Antonio) Melendez; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Mary’s neighbors, Jim and Susie Seeley, who were one of her favorite blessings. Mary also leaves behind a very special friend, Sandy Heslop. Mary worked for several years at Candor Central School as a teacher’s aide and enjoyed keeping up with her fellow alumni. She enjoyed quilting and was a founding member of the local quilt guild “New Quilters on the Block.” As so many from her generation, Mary saw boys go to war and (if they were fortunate) return as men. Patriotism, respect and personal responsibility were the norm in the country she grew up in. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Candor, NY with the Rev. Phil Jordan, officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, NY. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary A. Dence’s memory to Lourdes Hospital Foundation (Hospice), 169 Riverside Drive, Suite 103, Binghamton, NY 13905 or a charity of one’s choice.
