Obituary of Peter M. Haahr
Peter Michael Jesse Haahr (Pete), of Tioga Center, New York, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Pete was born June 29th 1981. Pete graduated from Tioga Central High School in 1999 where he played trumpet and French horn in the school band. After high school he became an electrician apprentice in the field before working as a custodian for many years. Pete was a quiet guy, but loved to joke and make people laugh. He had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed watching funny movies and shows with his family. Pete also enjoyed skateboarding with his brother, Patrick. He was very hardworking, and enjoyed spending time outside, especially visiting parks in Ithaca and Watkins Glen. Pete was very intelligent, always reading a new book, and a highly skilled artist. His specialty was making marbled paper (similar to the kind found on the inside cover of old books), creating designs on fabric with a technique using wax, and drawing intricate patterns on eggshells- similar to Ukrainian eggs. Though never formally trained in these areas, Pete was able to make beautiful art out of very little. He was close with his late father, Peter Sr., who encouraged him to pursue his artwork and take pride in his accomplishments. He will be missed by his friends and family, who loved him very much. His siblings will especially miss laughing and sharing memories with him. Pete is survived by his younger sisters, Melissa Haahr and Colie Haahr, and his younger brother, Patrick Haahr. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. He is predeceased by his parents Ann and Peter Haahr, grandparents, Sophie and Jesse Haahr, grandparents, Francis and Mary Shortsleeve, and sister Julie Bryden. A private burial service will be held Monday July 10, followed by a small gathering in Owego, NY. Friends and family are invited to join for a twilight memorial hike and candle lighting ceremony at Buttermilk Falls State Park, 106 E. Buttermilk Falls Road, Ithaca, NY, Tuesday July 11th in the evening from 5:30-dark.
