Obituary of Christopher J. Carrican

Christopher J. "Moose" Carrican 59, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 peacefully after a brief illness with his mother and fiancée by his side. Chris was born July 8, 1962 in Ithaca at Tompkins County Hospital to Barbara and Thomas Carrican. Chris grew up in Trumansburg graduating from Charles O'Dickerson High School. He joined the Junior Fire Service at the age of fourteen with the Trumansburg Volunteer Fire Department. Chris was nicknamed "Moose" very early in childhood because of his height and size and to this day his closest friends call him Moose! Christopher lived in Tampa, FL working as a flight medic and in Berkley Springs, WV as a fireman and embalmers assistant. Chris moved back to the area to be close with his Mom. He worked in antiques and collectibles with area auctioneer Bob Ellis. Chris last worked as a fireman with Port Dickinson Fire Dept. around the time of the 2011 flood. His last place of employment was with the Owego Elks Emporium and continued working with his love Annie. They took on the snack bar at the Emporium, he had great hope and pride in this venture. Chris was predeceased by his father Thomas Carrican and grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Kotasek of Newark Valley; brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Solvejg Carrican of Trumansburg; niece Ashley and nephew Tony of Oklahoma; as well as great-niece and great-nephews. Chris also leaves behind his love, Ann Viesti of Newark Valley and her daughters Bonnie (Jason) Steinbrecher, Christine (Peter) Howell, Stephanie Dakis-Pope, Danielle (Justin) Strause, Sarah (Brian) Anderson, Cassandra Dakis and grandchildren, Kayleigh, Ben, Petey, Leo and Justin Jr. He was happiest when with the children. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St., Owego, NY. A burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
