Obituary of Linda M. DeCator
Following a long term illness from Huntingtons Chorea, Linda DeCator, of Newark Valley, peacefully passed away at home on September 15, 2018. She was born September 29, 1944 in Plattsburgh, NY to Robert and Sylvia Clark. Her family moved to Massena, NY where she grew up. She graduated from Massena High School and attended Canton Tech where she graduated with a degree in Food Mgt. Following that, she attended Oneonta State as a Home Economics Major. While there she met her future husband Jim and they were married in June 1966. She postponed her education and they moved to Iowa where Jim completed his degree. They returned to New York and Linda graduated from Elmira College with a degree in Psychology. She and Jim lived in Massena, Endicott, Owego and finally Newark Valley. During her life she had several jobs in food service at resorts and worked in administration at two colleges. Finally she worked as a title searcher for several Owego law firms then owned her own Abstract company, LJ Abstract and Service. She retired in 2002. Linda is survived by her husband, Jim, a daughter, Shelly Bell (Florida); a son, David DeCator (Florida); a grandson, Camden Dyer-DeCator; a granddaughter, Kennidy Dyer-DeCator, both of Owego; a sister, Carolyn Glisson (Schenectady); several nephews and nieces throughout New York. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Curtis Clark; a sister, Cheryl Condon. She enjoyed puzzles, board games and traveling but her family was her most important asset. She deeply loved every member, especially her grandchildren. During their 52 years of marriage, Linda and Jim had many happy and interesting experiences from camping at State Parks to visiting EPCOT at Disney. She was a kind and caring person making friends wherever she was. From neighbors to business and social contacts to her health care aides she always let people know that she cared about them. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego. Burial will follow in the Tioga Cemetery.
