Obituary of Joyce F. Bowen

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Hudson Nairn Fraser Bowen completed her life's journey on January 15, 2022 at her home in Owego. Joyce was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Waverly, New York, the daughter of Scottish immigrants. Joyce was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin and friend to many. Her no-judgment zone, house on the hill, had an open door, and open fridge policy. All were welcome. Joyce and her husband, John, traveled the world well into their 80s. Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland and beyond. They also created life long, special memories with family and friends in Nantucket as well. Joyce made no secret that she lacked any enthusiasm for cooking whatsoever, but she sure could set a beautiful table! Joyce was an eternal optimist and always found the good in every person she met. She had a large circle of family and friends-like-family, and she loved each and every one of them unconditionally and whole heartedly. She was particularly proud of her Scottish heritage and her status as a first generation American. Joyce is survived by her husband, John Bowen; children, Nairn Kucharik, Jonathan (Audra) Marks, Jocelyn (Mark) McCluney, Ian Marks, John (Jeannie) Bowen, Michael (Ann) Bowen, Kevin Bowen; her grandchildren, Alex (Sandy) Marks, Adelaide Marks, Aaran (Kelly) Kucharik, Caitlin Kucharik, Nathan Houston, Mackenzie Bowen, Jacob Bowen, Shawn Bowen; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Scott (Beth) Fraser. The family wishes to thank Dr. Keith Nichols & Staff, and Angel Beebe and her legion of "Angels" for their compassionate care over the past few weeks. Private services will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be made via donation in Joyce Bowen's honor to the Tioga County Rural Ministry, 143 North Avenue, Owego, NY 13827. Condolences may be made to Joyce's family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
