Obituary of Jean M. McNeil

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother, Jean M. (Whitney) McNeil, 92, of Candor, NY who passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on December 31, 1929 to Harland and Myrtle (Jordan) Whitney. Jean was predeceased by her husband, George McNeil; daughter, Becky L'Amoreaux; three sisters, Joyce Sullivan, Elaine Whitney, Phyllis Ferris; her beloved dog, Toto; cat, Kitty. Jean is survived by her four children, Debra McNeil, Kevin and Elaine McNeil, Kent and Penny McNeil, Lisa Brixey; Becky's partner, Joseph Strait; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Whitney; several nieces and nephews; dear friend, Gwen Isham. Jean worked at Ithaca College, Jamesway and FBC in Owego, babysitting many children and most recently for the Edge of Thyme Bed & Breakfast in Candor. She did a lot of caregiving for her family members when they had fallen ill. She loved and cared about everyone and always put others first. Jean was an active member of the McKendree United Methodist Church, Methodist Women's Group and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Candor. The family will receive friends Monday, July 18, 2022 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor, NY with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Rev.
