Obituary of Lorraine J. Hess

Lorraine June (Snyder) Hess, of Apalachin, NY, passed away on July 26, 2022, at the age of 89. Lorraine was born in Hoboken, New Jersey to Homer and Margaret Snyder. She graduated from Ridgefield Park High School and Secretarial School. She worked as a secretary in Manhattan where she enjoyed seeing Broadway shows, having drinks at the Roosevelt and traveling with friends. She met her future husband, Gerry Hess on a blind date and they were married on September 21, 1957. They enjoyed 60 years together before Gerry passed away. Lorraine never met a stranger she couldn't strike up a conversation with. She was very involved in the First Presbyterian Union Church in Owego, NY, serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. She and Gerry made many lifelong friends there. Lorraine was dedicated to caring for her family and found time to enjoy bowling, golf, bridge, crafts, sewing, dinner groups and travel. She and Gerry explored the USA and Europe after Gerry retired, making wonderful memories. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, three brothers, Truman Zellner, Donald Snyder, Homer Snyder. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Kathleen Greer, Steven and Sommer Hess, Alan and Angelina Hess, two granddaughters, Rachel and Emily Greer; brother, Robert Snyder; sister-in-law, Dolores Snyder; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Union Church. 90 North Avenue, Owego, NY with services to immediately follow at 2:00 p.m..
