Willard James Davis, Sr. of Owego, passed away peacefully at Riverview Manor on Sunday, January 4, 2015. “Will” served in the U S Navy during WWII aboard the USS Chemung as an electrician apprentice. After the war he returned to the Scranton, PA area where he was born and raised. He relocated to Owego and went to work for IBM, retiring in 1982 after 28 years of service. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Owego, VFW Post # 1371 and American Legion Post #401. Will loved music and was an excellent dancer. He and his wife Jan enjoyed dancing as members of the Cir-Q-Laters for many years. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, rarely missing a game on TV, and had an amazing baseball card collection. Will was a devoted family man. He especially enjoyed children. All of his grandchildren have fond memories of trips for ice cream cones and other goodies.Will was born to Hosie and Mildred (Millie) Davis on July 25, 1922, in Scranton, PA. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janice (Jan Wimer Depew) Davis; son, Willard J. Davis, Jr; daughter, Sandra (Donald) Cardone; sisters, Romaine Ray, Marian (Cy) Bird; brothers, Rev. Arthur and Donald Davis; also step children, Lon (JoAnn) Depew, Donna (Bob) Miller, and Wendy (Wayne) Partelow, for whom he had a special admiration and love. Nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews will miss his presence in their lives. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Davis, granddaughter, Leanne Cardone, and step sons, Daryl and Warren Depew. Arrangements are made through Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, Owego, NY. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
