I met Jack in December 1975, when we were assigned as roommates in the 164th MP Co, Miesau Army Depot, Miesau, Germany. Jack was always singing Elvis' songs and strumming on his guitar (his singing voice sure improved over the years. :>) ). We worked 3 nights, 24-hour break, 3 nights and then was off for 3 days. During the summer months of 1976-1977, we would go to a little lake about 10 miles from the depot. 4 of us would camp out there for the 3 days when we were off. While camping there, Jack met Iris. I thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head. As he would say she was so gorgeous. So, we all talked for a while. Iris, spoke no English and Jack spoke no German. He came to me and said, "How am I ever going to talk to this girl, with her not speaking English." I said, "Learn German" and laughed. I'm so glad that Jack and Iris stayed together all these years. They were a fantastic couple. Jack was the brother I never had. His friendship to me was priceless. He was the best person I know. I'm surely going to miss him so much. So long my best friend ever.
