Maryann "Mimi" Rose Durinski, 92, passed away May 5, 2024. Maryann was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Felicia (Torczinski) Durinski; two brothers, Albert, Stanley; five sisters, Nan, Rose, Helen, Julia, Theodora. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mimi was so proud of her Polish Heritage but was also interested in everyone's heritage-religion she met. Of course, if they were Polish they were golden. She graduated from Coughlin High School, Wilkes Barre, in 1949, then from Kings College of Nursing, in 1952. With her nursing degree she first worked at a veteran's hospital then St. Vincint's Hospital on 12th Street. When her mother died, she moved from Sherman Ave to 12th Street. Her best friend, Vicki, lived a block away. St. Peters and Paul's Church was her foundation church for her spiritual life. When she moved to lower Manhattan, Our Lady of Pompeii became her church. Mimi's nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews loved visiting her. Mimi loved NYC and was always happy to show off the city. She lived the NYC dream, worked hard but enjoyed shows, all kinds of music, the theatre, markets, bodega's, kiosks etc. She was in the audience for the first Dr. Oz show. She has the phone number of New York Philharmonic in her address book. She volunteered at the Foundling Home and a little boy named Ralphie captured her heart. In front of her apartment building she had a beautiful garden that she was so proud of and was often seen working on it when people would stop to admire it. Suka, her building super, was a great help. Mimi loved trying different restaurants and in her later years "Thank God" for takeout, also QVC and HSN. Favorites were Little Poland on 1st Ave, and Sammy's Noodle House on 6th. Ave. She loved animals-especially dogs-and often spoke of her childhood dog, Pretzel. She was a republican-one could tell by her mail and a Jet's fan. While we will miss her, we are so happy she is with her family she has missed for so long.
