Obituary of Betty Lou Becker

Betty Lou (Hutchings) Becker passed peacefully on September 22, 2024 at the age of 91, reuniting with the love of her life Bill Becker. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Harry and Isabella (Briggs) Hutchings; her sister, Isabella Waffle; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marylou Hutchings. Also in-laws, Margaret and John Dow, of Binghamton NY, Richard and Dorothy Lang, of Ventura, CA and Clarence and Leona Becker, of Sydney, NY and a special nephew who made sure he made Betty Lou a part of his life, Bob Hutchings. Betty Lou is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda (Randy) Cronk, Bonnie Hand, Betsy (Mic) Knapp and Bethany (Tim) O'Rourke; grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Gilliland, Aaron Cronk and Andriana Shumova, Courtney Hand, Jerad Hand, Braiden (Adam) Ballard, Kyla (Greg) Lavery, Makenzie O'Rourke and Grant Maryott, Addison O'Rourke and Dylan Tonkery; great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Ella Gilliland, Maddy and Maya Lavery, Jackson DiMasi, Jace T Maryott, Aiden and Peyton Ballard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, a special niece who kept Betty Lou in her life, Mary Beth (Hutchings) Dunlop, and special cousins, Patsy and Ken Conway, Carthage NY. Betty Lou loved spending time with her family, she had to, they traveled twice cross country by camper. She and Bill were fortunate enough to travel to all 50 states and Europe. In retirement, they split their time between homes in Port Charlotte, Fl and the 1000 Islands, the 1000 Islands being their absolute favorite. While Betty Lou was raising her daughters, she instilled the importance of community service and volunteered many years as a Girl Scout Leader, Church Youth Group Advisor, Church Secretary and Driver for Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed A LOT of bingo, bowling, sewing, knitting, reading and spending time enjoying the sunsets on the St. Lawrence River. Family will receive friends on November 9, 2024 from 11:00-12:00 at Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church, 30 Glann Road Apalachin, NY with a memorial service immediately following at 12:00. Betty Lou loved blue, so we ask you to not be blue but to wear blue if attending. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place on the St. Lawrence River at a later date. Cremation arrangements were made through the Estey Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home of Owego NY. Appreciation to the staff at Riverview Nursing Home in Owego. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Park Terrace Food Pantry, 30 Glann Road, Apalachin, NY 13732.
