Jean Elizabeth Schmitt, 90, of Owego, NY, answered the call of her savior on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Dr. John L. and Effie Moran. Jean attended Eastern Nazarene College, graduated from Elmira College and taught 1st grade at Tioga Central School for 20 years. Jean married the love of her life, Don Schmitt, in 1956. They celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 9, 2024. Jean is survived by her husband, Don; three sons and their spouses, Donald, II (Cheryl), Timothy (Janelle), Barry (Deb); five grandchildren, Phillip (Brett Ashley) Tara(Matt), Alexandra (Ben), Jonathan, Christopher; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Woodcook, Pat (Mike) Stack; niece, Sue Fortier; several other nieces and nephews. Jean was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene and held many positions at the church. A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3732 Waverly Road, Owego, NY. The family will receive friends Friday, November 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Jean E. Schmitt's memory to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N.
