Please share a memory of Gail to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gail A. Maureen, 82, of Candor, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Doris Austin, and her sister, Sandra Walker. Gail is survived by her six children and their spouses: Deanna and Christopher Archer, Michael and Sara Kowalski, Kristin and Abraham Medina Jr., Steven Kowalski, Rachel and Robert Pryber, Jennifer and Austin Peterson Jr.; as well as her nine beloved grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Lee Walker. Gail's life was marked by a passion for service and social justice. She dedicated much of her career to helping resettle refugees from countries such as Vietnam, Ethiopia, Sudan, Bosnia, and Cuba, working tirelessly with the Refugee Resettlement and Services Project and several global humanitarian agencies. In her final role, she worked at Andrew's Terrace, where she provided essential support to residents in subsidized housing for low-income individuals, advocating especially for Rochester's most vulnerable residents. Gail was known for her strong personality, steadfast beliefs, and willingness to stand up for what she felt was right. She touched many lives while living in Rochester creating deep beloved friendships. In retirement, Gail cherished time with her family and friends and found joy in gardening, quilting and the church community. She often said, "I'm a country girl and I'm going home," so she returned to the place she loved most, Candor. During these years, she reconnected with dear old friends and made treasured new ones, holding each of them close to her heart. Deeply rooted in her faith, Gail brought warmth, strength, and kindness to those around her. She will be missed dearly. A celebration of Gail's life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 75 North Main Street, Spencer, NY, officiated by Rev. Sabrina Slater. The family is being assisted by the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home. Condolences may be shared with Gail's family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
