Lionel Fields Jr., 69, of Candor, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family, after courageously facing a 20-year journey with cancer. Born to the late Martha and Lionel Fields Sr. Lionel was the light in so many of our worlds—a remarkable man, deeply loved by family and friends alike. His kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved made his presence a cherished gift to everyone who knew him.
An avid sports fanatic, Lionel's love for NASCAR and football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, was well-known. If you knew Lionel, you knew that if either sport was on, that was what he'd be watching—no questions asked! His excitement and passion for the game brought joy to everyone around him.
Lionel was predeceased by his sister, Sheila Joseph; three brothers, David, Vincent, and Douglas Small. He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Fields; five children, Jason Fields, Caitlin (Corey) Cooke, Jennifer Fields (Rafael Ventura-Marte), Skyler Fields (Katherine McCann), Michelle McKinney; nine grandchildren, who were the light of his world; four siblings, Lois Hammond, Shirley Ezell, Keith Fields, Lenny Fields; along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Monumental Baptist Church, 1009 Maple Ave, Elmira, NY 14901. Calling hours will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with services starting at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.emfaheyfuneralhome.com.
