Obituary of Walter Kieda

Walter Kieda, 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Theresa; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David and Lisa Kieda, Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Lin Kieda Goetz, Suffern, NY; 7 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kieda was predeceased by his son, Walter Kieda. Walt and Theresa loved each other and cared for each other all throughout their 64 years of marriage. Mr. Kieda was known and loved by many in the area and will be remembered as a caring and quiet man, highly intelligent, hardworking and dedicated to his family. A man of great integrity and honesty, he could do anything he was determined to do. He grew up on a farm near Newark Valley, NY, one of ten brothers and sisters. During World War II, Walt worked at Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, MD on the P5-B Antisubmarine Aircraft. After the war, he worked as a toolmaker for General Electric Avionics Plant in Johnson City for 37 years. Walt was an avid bowler, having won an award for 50 consecutive years of league bowling. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel and a member of the Owego Moose Lodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 300 Main St., Owego with the Rev. William Moorby, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego.
