Alberta “Bert” Weisz, of Candor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 201in her farm house of 60 years after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Weisz was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Martin Weisz; son, David Weisz. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Kathryn (Mike) Medovich, Stephen (Marj) Weisz, Daniel (Laura) Weisz, Deborah (Don) Parmalee; 13 grandchildren;20 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Thomas Weisz; sister-in-law, Suzie Hornbeck; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is survived by cousins, many nieces and nephews. She had numerous friends near and far, including traveling partners, dancing partners, volunteering friends, and so many more as not to be missed. Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. Alberta retired from Tioga County Social Services after a long career as supervisor in Child Protection. She was admired for her love of animals and enjoyed her farm life. She extensively traveled, danced, enjoyed musical events and in fact was a beautiful musician herself, known for her huge gardens and food preparation, loved to bake, volunteered, was involved in Owego and Candor Senior Clubs, was caregiver for years for husband and mother in her home, and most especially admired and loved her growing family. She admired her grandchildren and great-grandchildren near and far. Known for her tough exterior, but admired for her wit, humor and compassion. Was a loving mother who extended herself beyond the usual role to help others grow to be fine adults. Known as the world traveler, loved the country, and especially loved her farm home life. She just celebrated her 83rd birthday with the people she loved. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 117 Main St., Owego, NY. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, NY. The family will receive friends Friday Evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Tioga County Rural Ministry, ASPCA, Lourdes at Home, Lourdes Hospice or animal shelters of choice.
