Obituary of Paul E. Reed

Paul E. Reed, of Candor, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 5, 2016, two days shy of his 98th birthday. Paul was born in Willseyville, N.Y. to the late, Howard and Daisy (VanScoy) Reed. Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert and Arden Reed. He is survived by his sister, Doris Shlanta, Horseheads; niece, Patti Shlanta, Horseheads, nephew, Paul and his wife, Mary Shlanta and their son, Benjamin, of Atlanta, GA. Paul was a bachelor until he was 54 years old, when he married a widow, Eleanor Weber Czarniecki and her two children, Carl and Irene, became his ready made family for the rest of his long life. He was a wonderful husband and father to them and their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even a great-great-grandchild. They loved him and cared for him until his death. He often said that they brought him out of the Dark Ages and showed him how to enjoy life. He was such a hard worker and never had taken a day off from his sawmill where he had worked from daylight til dark. He was a 75 year member of the Candor Grange and the McKendree United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Candor. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Paul E. Reed’s memory to the Candor Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 141, Candor, NY 13743.
