I have wanted to contact Mr. Schoonover for many years now. I don't think he ever knew the great influence he had on me. He was my English teacher and my philosophy teacher. He really changed my life. I went from a high school drop out to having now two degrees, published over 8 works of nonfiction, I am the senior pastor of a growing church in Tampa Fl, a father, husband and international entertainer. I owe so much of that to Mr. Schoonover.
Now that I discover it to be too late for me to let him know I hope you will be encouraged in knowing how much he was loved and respected. My heart and prayers go out to all his loved ones. He changed the world in more ways than you can imagine. He truly was a great man and his legacy will live on for generations.

Dear Mrs Schoonover. Shirley and I are so sad for your loss I got to know him as a friend. When ever he needed some thing trimmed, he would walk to the other side of the building, I always enjoyed talking with him. I remember him always taking picture's of people in the shop, he alway's had a great attitude. I asked him one day if he would take a family picture of us, five kid's and shirley and I, he always took the time to do things like that, What a guy" I want you to know that our prayers are with you and your family. Just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about Gary's passing. I just knew him from waiting on him at Fairbanks and Rite Aid, it was always a pleasure to talk with and he always had a smile on his face. I was so shocked to hear this news. Let me add my condolences on Gary's passing. Gary really was so integral to our work world, whether it be the many sales meetings, his greeting when you call into the office or of course, the famous Christmas videos.
Those videos especially became an integral part of our holiday celebrations. He had such a knack for capturing all the positive aspects of our work world and it just won't be the same without him.

Bonnie and Julia,
Let me add my voice to the many voices you've already heard. I don't have any unique insight, but would like to add just the same, that Gary was not only the voice of At-A-Glance (and all the others) he was simply the heart of the company. Gentle, dignified, intelligent and somehow both composed and still frenetic. If someone said what is that place like? You could answer its like Gary. I had the good fortune of having a window, and would often see him leaning into his fast paced walk earnestly, and nattily headed toward his next assignment. He would always stop to talk, but as ever, he was always working. His presence meant that things were right with the place, and he will be sorely missed.
I can only imagine your pain. Please take comfort in knowing how much he was loved.

Bonnie, Julia and family,
During the 18 years that I worked at Mead, I met and worked with numorous people. No one left the great, positive impression on me like Gary did.
From my first days, upon meeting Gary, he was a rare ray of sunshine. There was always laughter where ever he was. If you heard him and others giggling, you knew Gary had just told a humorous story from his past, or shared an inside joke. Gary never failed to brighten your day.
I got to see Gary at his best and worst at many a sales meeting in Fla.. These meetings would run us all ragged, but he still kept his spirit, still made us laugh and still was a joy to be around.
The parts I will miss the most are the chance meetings in the hallways. If we saw each other, his face would brighten, he'd say my name and stop to chat about something we both enjoyed. No one else did that.
Gary is one of the handful of people that I will meet in my lifetime, that I will hold in the highest regard.

Simple words cannot describe the impact Gary had on people and on me individually. Gary was a "passionate" man, passionate about his family, his work and his friends. Gary not only stood out from the crowd with his "tie attire",, which to me made a statement about his individuality, but also because he never thought about saying NO,, I had the pleasure to work with Gary for 16 years. He was responsible along with Pam Barton for really being the key components of all the sales meetings we had. He brought them to life, he created the theme, the design and the atmosphere.
Behind the scenes he had a major impact of the success of Keith Clark, Mead, MWV and ACCO,, his spirit, kindness and generosity will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family for losing someone so young whose light shined so bright.

We are so sad about the loss of our valued friend and colleague. Gary was such an integral part of our work family. He was known as the voice of At-A-Glance (MWV-ACCO). It is so hard to accept he has gone from us so quickly and unexpectedly. I keep thinking he's just away or out of the office and he'll be calling or walking through my door at any time. I find it extremely hard even to go into his office. I can't begin to imagine how hard it must be for all of you. He was such an energetic and caring person. It is comforting to listen to his voice on the many training videos we created together over the years. It helps to remember his cheerful smile and contagious laugh. He was an amazingly talented and creative person too. I often told him he really was a genius and should have his IQ tested to verify it. He would just grin and change the subject. So sorry .....I had the pleasure of working with Gary on a number of projects during my years at Mead ( AAG). Every one of them were fantastic . During the SAP roll out we created a number of commercials to help with the change...including our version of the Christmas Carol. We also created a training video for Staples ...called Professor Flex that was distributed to the entire Staples chain , as well as highlighted at one of their national meetings.
Gary is a talent that can not be duplicated .......and I am sure he will be doing lots of creative things in Heaven as well ...

Bonnie-
Gary was a wonderful man, and he'll be greatly missed by those who knew him. He was talented, dedicated, sincere, and empathetic, and was always willing to do whatever it took to execute a project. He exuded human warmth and sympathy. My daughter had a significant health issue a few years back, and Gary unfailingly would stop me in the hall to ask how she was doing. That really meant a lot to me. I can only imagine the grief you and Julia must be experiencing. Just know that Gary lives on in so many people's memories. Julia- I don't think we ever met, but I'm sure your father would want you to do everything you can to complete your college education. I know none of this will be easy, but it's vitally important to focus on the road ahead. I'm putting a small check in the mail today to help you along that path.

I worked with Gary for a few years at Mead. He was always a delight to be around and had an infectious laugh that I will never forget.
