Obituary of John J. Davey
John J. Davey, Sr., 94, formerly of Owego passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018. John was born on June 22, 1924 in Carbondale, PA to the late Margaret and Thomas Davey. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Paul Davey; two sisters, Margaret Andrews, Mary Moskosky; seven brothers-in-law, Metro, Steve, Peter and Walter Premock; Paul Holowatch, George Lyons, Andy Telep; two sisters-in-law, Anna Premock, Mary Lyons. John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Christine Davey and their cat, Annie; son and daughter-in-law, John and Inalou Davey, Towanda, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie and Rick Lafford, Dansville, NY; special sister-in-law, Stella Holowatch, Endicott, NY; sisters-in-law, Sarah Premock, Margarite Premock, Mary Ann Premock, Helen Telep; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Upon early graduation from High School John enlisted in the U.S. Army, as a member of the 532nd Field Artillery Battalion and was a bazookaman and gun crewman on a 155 mm artillery gun during the Pacific Campaign of WWII serving 3 years. He was employed by IBM – Owego for 27 years as a Cost Engineer and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. John was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Owego, NY, Glenn A. Warner Post #1371 and the American Legion Post #401. John was a life-long NY Yankees and NY Giants fan and coached a game from the comfort of his recliner. John loved his family and was a good man who was devoted to his family, friends and faith. Many will remember his sense of humor. The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt Thank-you to the staff of Susquehanna Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City who provided such outstanding and compassionate care to him during his many visits and especially in his final days. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Owego, NY. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in John J.
