Obituary of Harry R. O'Connell

Harry R. O’Connell, 95, of Apalachin passed away on Friday, December, 13, 2013. Mr. O’Connell was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Soini L. O’Connell, who died in 2010; brother, Leland O’Connell, Jr. He is survived by his three children; his son, William and his wife, Patricia O’Connell; his son, Peter O’Connell, Louie Larson, and Nancy O’Connell; and his daughter, Vera “Lin”, and her husband, Bruce Layman; as well as eight grandchildren; and numerous great- grandchildren. Mr. O’Connell was born in Utica, NY on November 24, 1918, to the late Leland and Gladys O’Connell. Harry received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University in 1941. Harry was a veteran of the US Army serving as a First Lieutenant during WWII in Africa and Europe. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 117 Main Street, Owego, with the Rev. Richard Schaal, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, NY. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St, Owego. Memorial contributions may be made in Harry R. O’Connell’s memory to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s memorial fund, 117 Main St., Owego, NY 13827; or the Waterman Conservation Education Center, 403 Hilton Road, Apalachin, NY 13732.
