Rita Kay Blinn, 69, of Candor, passed away on July 16, 2020, due to health complications. Rita was born on Jan. 11, 1951, the second daughter and third child of Keith and Mary (McNeil) Blinn. Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her brothers; Samuel and Ralph; sister, Kieta. She is survived by her son, Porfirio ‘Rod' Rodriguez, of Candor; her granddaughters, Jennifer, Cierra, Dallas, and Lily; her brother and sister-in-law, Randy (Rose) Blinn, of Candor; Ila Blinn, of Endicott; and several nieces and nephews. Rita spent almost all of life in service to her community. She served with the Candor Emergency Squad for eight years, spending a few years as Squad Captain. She received the Mike Ferris Award and the Candor Emergency Squad Captain’s Award for her service. She served with the Candor Fire Company as the fire company secretary for many years. There she handled many of the behind-the-scenes tasks for the pancake breakfasts. She was awarded the Roger Townsend Award for outstanding service at the company in 2001. In her spare time, Rita loved exploring and reading history. She especially loved medieval history and exploring her own family’s genealogy. She would spend hours upon hours tracing her family’s bloodline throughout the centuries and writing down her findings in binders to later give to her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 27, 2020, at 5 p.m. at Moyer Park in Candor, NY.
