Obituary of Ruth Ann Smith

Ruth Ann Smith, 79, of Apalachin, NY passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 with her family by her side. Ruth Ann was born in Lebanon, PA to the late James and Margaret (Whipple) Wiley. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years. Richard L. "Dick" Smith; four children and their spouses, Rick and Jessica Smith, Scott Smith, Brad and Debbi Smith, Amy and Mike Bartlow; nine grandchildren, Vicky, Abby, Jesse, Noelle, Derek, Kaitlyn, Christian, Brady, Irene; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Aebli, Jeanette and Walter Zakrzewski, Nancy and Dave Worth; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Dick Stickler; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Ruth Ann was crowned Miss Myerstown – 1960, Miss Poultry Queen of Lebanon County – 1961. She graduated from Myerstown High School class of 1961. Ruth Ann and Dick started dating in high school, married in 1963 and after Dick graduated Penn State University, moved to the triple cities area to raise their family. Ruth Ann was very community minded and volunteered for many O.A. school district organizations and was a member of the Owego Apalachin School Board from 1994 to 2006. She enjoyed reading, bowling, knitting and spending time with family and friends. The family will receive friends Friday, March 31, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY 13827. Life celebrations services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth Ann Smith's memory to The Ruth Ann Smith Teacher Fund, 2610 Marshland Rd., Apalachin, NY 13732.
