John J. Bowen Sr., 94 years of age, peacefully passed in his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, January 6, 2025. John J. Bowen was born on November 15, 1930 to his parents, Raymond A. Bowen and Mabel A. Deister in Montrose, PA. John was the youngest of four children, Geraldine, Eunice, and Nelson. John joined the Navy in 1948 and was stationed in Maryland as a Radar Operator aboard the USS Miller. He later graduated from Nichols College of Dudley, MA. Upon graduating, John moved to Owego and joined the family business, known as the Tioga Foundry Corporation where he became Vice President. Later, John joined Ingersol Rand of Waverly, NY. Years later, John joined the Benton Foundry of Benton, PA, as their top Sales Agent in grey iron castings, and retired in 2000. John and his late wife, Joyce Fraser, spent many years traveling throughout the world with friends and was an avid outdoorsman. John enjoyed 18 wonderful years living on the Island of Nantucket, MA, where he enjoyed fishing and lobstering, much to everyone's delight. He was a bag piper with Penn-York (Ladies from Hell) Pipe Band of Athens, PA. John is survived by his three sons, John J. Bowen Jr (Jeanne), Michael H. Bowen (Ann), Kevin M. Bowen, from his previous wife Jacqui. He is survived by the children from his late wife, Joyce; Nairn, Jonathan (Audra), Jocelyn (Mark), Ian; his many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. John was a friend to many and loved entertaining the masses at their home "on the hill" in Owego. One of Johns many favorite sayings was "and the night shall be filled with music". May this saying forever be true. Rest easy, Dad, we'll take it from here. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
