Obituary of Eugene Thomas Kemp, DVM

Eugene “Gene” Thomas Kemp, DVM, 88, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at home.  Gene was predeceased by his parents, Oswald and Dorothy Kemp; siblings, Beverly (Sel) Richardson, Mac (Nadyne) Farrow, Dorthea (Tom) Bamber, his first wife, Ruth Kemp.  He is survived by his wife of 38 Years, Margaret “Peg” Kemp; son and daughter-in-law, William and Joanne Kemp; several nieces and nephews.  Gene graduated from Cornell University and in 1957 became the owner of Day Hollow Animal Clinic in Owego.  Gene and Terry Hill became partners in the business in the 1980’s and Gene continued working with Terry  until his retirement in 2000.  Gene was a very active member of the community.  He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Owego.  He taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was a member of the church board of directors, 1991-1998; a member of Owego Kiwanis, president, 1968; vice president of the Tioga County Board of Health, 1988-1996,  President, 1996-2005;  member of the Owego-Apalachin Board of Education, 1961-1971;  member of Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Education Services, Binghamton, 1969-1983, President, 1971-1976;  founding President of Broome-Tioga Council School Board, President, 1973;  member of Southern Tier Veterinary Medicine Association, President, 1992;  a member of Gideons International where he especially enjoyed his ministry to the residents of the Tioga County Jail.  Gene’s avocations included playing the piano, jazz and creative writing.  In 2002, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of authoring the book, Serfs of a Fief. Gene also contributed articles to professional journals.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3732 Waverly Road, Owego, NY with the Rev. Phillip Nase, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tioga Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY.  A Life Celebrations Home®.  Condolences may be made to Gene’s family at
